3D modeler looking for work!

The truth is, Studio Edgeloop as a business is down! Because of that it’s sole employee, Yours Truly, is looking for work!

Any full-time position in 3D is interesting – even if you are not in Finland, I can still work from my home office and deliver the models to you.

I can deliver textured, game-ready 3D models made to your specifications – props, environments and even characters. If you happen to be using Unity3D, I could help you with the game engine as well. While 3D modeling is my main discipline, I use Unity for demos and follow the Unity scene closely. I come from a programmer background, so I do some scripting as well.

Here’s a quick list of most relevant skills:

3D graphics:

3ds Max

I started learning 3d modeling with Max in 2005. Soon I switched over to the more friendly priced XSI | Softimage, now known as Autodesk Softimage. While I loved working with XSI, in the beginning of 2010 I decided to migrate back to Max and now it’s my main modeling tool.

Zbrush

I added ZBrush to my toolbox in fall 2010. I’m still quite new to sculpting, but I’m spending a great deal of my free-time to learn more. Classes with awesome instructors have allowed me to get the basics together in just months and now I’m practicing my character sculpting skills and anatomy. Right now I spend more time working with ZBrush than I do with Max.

xNormal

This fantastic free tool should be known by all game artists! It is an essential part of my workflow, especially when combining Max and ZBrush to create a game ready 3D-asset.

Photoshop

While I’m not a graphic designer or a 2D artist, I make daily use of Photoshop for creating textures as well as many other related tasks. I also use it for photo retouching in my free-time.

Programming:

Java

Starting from 1998, Java has been my main language while working as a software designer before Studio Edgeloop. Currently, I don’t find much use for it in the game development world, but it has been a great help in getting started with C#. Over the years I’ve been involved in quite a few Java projects, covering different aspects of Java and associated technologies.

C++

My secondary language has been C++. Projects have involved Windows GUIs and certain mobile environment, now more like a historical platform…

C#

Prior to founding Studio Edgeloop, I had no experience in C#. However, it was easy to pick up after years of Java code and I enjoy using it in my current projects. C# is one of the languages supported by the Unity3D game-engine.

Web

I have no professional experience in web development, but putting together my company’s web site I have been forced to learn CSS, Javascript and PHP to name a few techniques.

Game engines:

Unity3D

I have been using Unity3D since 2009 and during fall of 2010 I finally decided to upgrade to Unity Pro. While I’m not purely a game developer, I enjoy using Unity in my projects and often find myself staying up until the late hours because of it. You can find one environment demo from my portfolio and a couple of screencapture videos I made in Unity.
